Developing Community Leaders
High school students are participating in our Developing Community Leaders classes in two pilot high schools (Antioch and Maplewood). In this initiative undertaken by our High School committee, these students have not only benefited personally from their training and experience but have become positive role models and leaders in their respective schools. Based upon this initial dramatic success, MNPS will be adding Developing Community Leaders classes to nine more high schools in 2007-2008.
Character Education
Our Elementary School Committee’s Character Education program, initiated in 2005-2006, is now in 40 pilot elementary schools. Pilot school counselors report enthusiastic student participation in this program which is all about reinforcing those positive character traits that ultimately bring positive change to school climate. Each month these schools focus on a particular character trait in classroom, as well as school-wide activities:

These are only two examples of the successes that have been and will be achieved when community resources collaborate with Metro Public Schools to create a safe and successful learning environment for our children in our public schools.
