The 7th Annual Social Emotional Learning Conference will bring together more than eight hundred educators, experts, and community members invested in the mental, emotional, social, and academic success and wellbeing of Nashville’s youth. The event will be held at Cane Ridge High School on June 29 and 30 and is free to all those living and working in Davidson County.
Since launching the conference in 2011, the MNPS SEL Department and the Behavioral Health Alignment Team has annually aligned resources from more than 100 community partners to provide workshops for educators, promote awareness of SEL and trauma informed practices, and help professionals understand its impact on school climate and academics.
“Educators who have attended this conference over the years share that they left inspired and excited to go back to their classrooms better equipped to implement SEL best practices. The conference has also afforded the opportunity for schools and community partners to spotlight some of the innovative SEL work already underway here in Nashville.”
-Kyla Krengel, Director of Social Emotional Learning for MNPS
Through social emotional learning, Metro Nashville Public Schools and its community partners are demonstrating a commitment to meeting the needs of the whole learner by helping students build skills to deal with all of life’s challenges and develop positive strategies for handling conflict and managing healthy social relationships.
The 2017 SEL Conference will feature opportunities to network and connect with local and national organizations, participate in more than 70 expert workshops, and hear keynote speakers Tim Shriver, co-founder and board member of the Collaborative for Academic, Social, & Emotional Learning and Chairman of the Special Olympics, and teacher educator and author Zaretta Hammond, nationally recognized for her work on culturally responsive teaching.
