Office of Nashville Mayor Megan Barry has partnered with Metro Nashville Public Schools and Alignment Nashville on an initiative to connect teachers to more affordable housing opportunities in Davidson County.

The Nashville Teacher Housing website (nashvilleteacherhousing.com) makes it easy for current or prospective MNPS educators to explore rental properties and developments that offer teacher-preference discounts or specials and browse resources that help individuals and families secure housing or prepare to become homeowners.

“Teachers are the backbone of our public education system,” said Melissa Jaggers, President and CEO of Alignment Nashville, “We hope the launch of this website will encourage more apartment managers and developers to see the value in providing affordable options for educators to be able to live in the community where they teach, which is an important piece of making sure our community welcomes and supports one of our most valuable resources, our teachers.”

The freshly launched online resource is just one piece in a larger unified effort to ensure that Metro Schools attracts and retains top-quality educators for Nashville’s youth–it is also the brainchild of the Teacher Recruitment & Retention A-Team through Alignment Nashville. Co-chaired by Laura Moore, Senior Education Advisor to Mayor Barry, and Deborah Story, MNPS Executive Officer of Human Resources, the Teacher Recruitment & Retention A-Team will explore additional tactics to make MNPS and Nashville a more welcoming and accessible to our valuable teachers.
