Our teams identified 33 distinct needs to be fulfilled before we can claim success at achieving any of our goals. At the beginning of our session, we agreed that something could be called a need if it met either of the following criteria:
A measurable lack of or decrease in something compared to the required or desired amount of that thing.
A measurable increase in something generally characterized as undesirable.
STRATEGIES
Use systematic surveillance of fetal and infant deaths to establish ongoing prevention strategies.
Increase the number of breast fed infants, especially African-American infants.
Increase the number of reproductive aged women who receive preconception and inter-conception care.
Provide a home visit to all postpartum women.
Public awareness program.
Incentive-based program to encourage pre & post natal
care & education.

Better education and utilization of prenatal care.
Education on breastfeeding, especially for

Identify populations with low immunization
coverage rates.
Educate anti-vaccine activists about the importance
of immunization.
Systematically implement physical exams for children in grades 3,5,7, and 9 to introduce vaccines for
older children.
Improving access to vaccines (weekend/evening hours, transportation, assure medical home ).
Mandate vaccine updates for school attendance.
