MNPS Intersession: Learn More, Experience More, Do More - Ongoing ITP
ACCEPTING PROPOSALS FROM THE COMMUNITY
Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) is developing a cohesive plan for the forthcoming MNPS Intersession which will begin in school year 2012-2013. Intersession is an integral part of the new balanced calendar with its primary focus on providing extended and enriched learning experiences. The Intersession dates will be the first 3 days of fall break 2012 (October 8-10, 2012) and then the first week of spring break (March 18-22, 2013). This will be a total of 8 day of intersession.
MNPS is seeking community organizations that can provide programs and services during these Intersession dates. This new program will be designed to meet the needs of all MNPS students, from the student needing remedial assistance to the advanced, college-focused student. Community involvement in the educational practice is considered a highly effective strategy for closing the achievement gap in education.
There are three main areas of focus:
Learn MORE (knowledge): Site based instructional support program to address the learning needs of students. Examples: Instructional labs, tutoring, online learning, credit recovery
Experience MORE (skills): The development of programs and services to extend and enrich the learning experiences of MNPS students. Examples: science camp, young engineers, park exploration, ACT/SAT camps, etc.
Do MORE (character): Programs and experiences that promote civic and community involvement and improvement. Examples: health/wellness camps, community service projects, tours, liberal arts programs.
