Create relevance and help students achieve in MNPS High Schools.

Metro Schools is restructuring all of its comprehensive high schools to include Small Learning Communities (SLC). Under the new design, students will be assigned to a Freshman Academy as they begin high school. Then, in grades 10-12, students will select a career or thematic academy and take classes related to such fields as finance, law/public safety, manufacturing, science, the arts or hospitality. This school redesign is grounded in the premise that students can best acquire core subject competencies and 21st century skills in a real-world context. That cannot happen without the full involvement of the business community and the real-world opportunities they represent.
