Éxito Community Mentoring Pilot

The Éxito Program provides additional supports to New American youth and families in Metro Nashville Public Schools.

Designed by the Integration of International Families A-Team, Éxito provides an opportunity for caring, invested bilingual (English/Spanish) adults in our community to build relationships with students who. Éxito mentors provide accountability and support to help students navigate school, increase their sense of belonging, and increase their school attendance.

HOW ÉXITO WORKS

Éxito sessions will occur in the 2018-19 school year during students’ lunchtime (11:35am-12:35 pm) on the following dates: Oct. 23, Nov. 27, Jan. 29, Feb. 26, & March 21.

Volunteer mentors are paired with 2-4 sophomores at Overton High School for one hour each month. Guest speakers and translator/ interpreters are utilized based on need and availability.

Éxito Session Format:

  1. [10 minutes] Ice Breakers – Introductory activities for all participants
  2. [20 minutes] Facilitated Discussion – Guest Speaker provides resources and facilitates discussion on selected topic
  3. [20 minutes] Small Group Discussion – Students and mentors discuss key points for the session topic and have deeper interaction with assigned students
  4. [10 minutes] Closing Reflection – Final reflections and adjourn for the day

ÉXITO PARTNERS

Community Mentors

Are bilingual (English/Spanish) community members who participate in all Exito sessions.

Guest Speakers

Provide resources and facilitate 20-minute discussions on a particular topic.

Translators/ Interpreters

are Spanish speakers who can interpret guest speakers and/or translate resources.
